RON is a notarial act performed through real-time audio-video communication. A registered Florida Online Notary Public confirms identity, observes the electronic signing or receives the required acknowledgment, and completes an electronic certificate, signature, and seal. The process must satisfy Florida law and the selected RON provider’s compliant procedures.

Yes. Florida Statutes Chapter 117, Part II authorizes eligible online notarizations. The notary must be registered as an Online Notary Public and generally must be physically located in Florida. The act requires compliant audio-video technology, identity confirmation, and a recorded session.

Florida law governs a compliant Florida online notarization even when the principal or witnesses are elsewhere. That does not compel every recipient to accept an electronic record. Ask the court, bank, registry, school, government office, or other recipient whether it accepts RON, electronic signatures, and the proposed document format.

Possibly. The destination authority may require an apostille, authentication, consular legalization, certified translation, paper original, or another formality. An apostille is issued by the competent government authority, not by the notary, and it does not validate the document’s contents or guarantee acceptance.

Florida law allows the principal to be outside Florida while the Online Notary Public is physically in Florida. A principal outside the state must consent to the act being performed by a Florida notary under Florida law. The session can proceed only if identity proofing, document rules, platform requirements, and recipient requirements are satisfied.

Common requests include powers of attorney, affidavits, child travel consents, private agreements, bank authorizations, and corporate records. Eligibility is document-specific. Electronic wills, estate-planning instruments, witness-dependent documents, real-estate records, and international matters can involve additional rules or may require another process.

Prepare the complete unsigned document, an eligible government-issued photo identification credential, a device with a camera and microphone, a stable private internet connection, and access to your email. Tell us in advance about witnesses, name differences, language needs, signer location, or special instructions from the recipient.

Unless the principal is personally known to the notary, Florida law requires remote presentation of a government-issued identification credential, credential analysis, and knowledge-based authentication or another compliant identity-proofing method. If those steps cannot be completed, the online notarization may not proceed.

You generally receive the completed electronic document with the signer’s electronic signature and the Online Notary Public’s electronic certificate, signature, and seal. The certificate must identify the act as an online notarization. Confirm whether the recipient needs the electronic file, a printed copy, or another format.

Yes. Florida law requires the RON service provider to retain an uninterrupted and unedited copy of the audio-video communication. The electronic journal and recording must generally be maintained for at least ten years, with special rules for sessions involving an electronic will.
