First, the right document

Certificate, decree or verification? The difference that prevents rejections

Above all, the number one cause of rejections and lost weeks is requesting the wrong document. Moreover, the United States has no federal divorce register. Therefore, depending on the state and on how you will use it, the right document may be a certificate, a certified copy of the judgment or a verification letter. Here is the difference.

Divorce Certificate (Certificate)

Specifically, it is issued by the vital records office of the state health department. Therefore, it proves that the divorce took place — names, date and county — without exposing the private terms of the settlement.

State vital records office

Decree or Judgment (Decree)

Namely, the court order signed by the judge that ended the marriage, filed by the clerk of the county court. Moreover, its certified copy is available in all 50 states.

County court

Annulment Certificate (Annulment)

Instead, it declares that the marriage was void from the outset — as if it had never legally existed. Therefore, it is filed and requested through the same routes as a divorce, depending on the state.

Marriage nullity

Not sure which one you need? In fact, it is the most common question. So tell us what you need it for, and we confirm the right document before you pay anything.

We understand you

If you are going through this, you are not alone

These are the real obstacles our clients describe when they come to us. So if you recognize yourself in any of them, this service is for you.

“I do not know whether I need the certificate or the decree”

Meanwhile, each office asks you for a different paper and nobody explains the difference. As a result, requesting the wrong one costs weeks and a new payment of fees.

“Every state has different rules”

There is no national counter. Consequently, each state and county has its own office, forms, identity requirements and turnaround times.

“In my country they ask for it with an apostille”

Unless you obtain the Hague Apostille from the issuing state, your U.S. divorce carries no validity before registries and authorities abroad.

“My translation was rejected”

Besides, authorities require a certified translation with the translator's certificate of accuracy. Therefore, home-made translations, or one done by a relative, are rejected.

“I am afraid of giving my data online”

Names, dates, civil history. Above all, handing them to an anonymous site, with no office and no verifiable licenses, is a real identity theft risk.

“I have a deadline”

A wedding, a closing or a registration will not wait. Meanwhile, official turnaround times run from days to several weeks depending on the state. Therefore, starting badly means losing your slot.

02

We prepare your official application

Next, state forms, identity and eligibility verification, and payment of official fees. Afterwards, you sign what is needed at our Brickell office or entirely remotely.

Nationwide coverage

One country, fifty different sets of rules

Naturally, each state decides which document it issues, who may request it and how long it takes. These are the most frequent scenarios among our clients — if your state is not listed, we confirm it in writing in our first reply.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the divorce or annulment certificate

Direct answers. In other words, the same ones we would give you at the office.

The certificate is issued by the state vital records office and proves only that the divorce took place: names, date and location. By contrast, the decree is the court’s complete judgment, covering custody, support and division of property. For remarriage or a name change the certificate is usually enough. However, for full legal effect, the certified copy of the decree is required.

In other words, it is the official record confirming that a marriage was declared void from the outset — as if it had never legally existed. States file and issue it through the same routes as divorces. In Florida, for example, both are recorded as dissolutions of marriage with the Bureau of Vital Statistics.

No. Some states only provide the certified copy of the court decree. Others — such as Texas — issue verification letters instead. That is why we first verify what the state where your divorce took place issues, and what the entity requesting it accepts, before you pay any official fees.

Yes. The process is fully remote. First, you write to us on WhatsApp. Then you sign what is needed electronically or remotely. Finally, you receive your document — with apostille and certified translation if you need them — by tracked courier in your country. You do not need to travel to the United States.

Namely three things: the state (and if possible the county) where the divorce or annulment was finalized, the full names of both parties as they appeared in the proceedings, and the exact or approximate date. With that, we then confirm the official route and the identity requirements for your case.

It depends on the issuing state. Florida processes computerized records in about 3 to 5 business days, whereas other states take several weeks. Furthermore, we give you the realistic turnaround for your state in writing before we start, and we use tracked shipping so you do not lose days in the mail.

Yes — this is one of the most common uses. For a marriage license in the U.S., the certificate or the decree is usually enough, depending on the county. Conversely, to marry abroad, the document normally has to carry an apostille and, depending on the country, a certified translation. In short, we handle all three pieces.

If your country is party to the Hague Convention — as almost all of Latin America and Europe are — then yes. Specifically, the apostille from the Secretary of State of the issuing state is what gives the document international validity. Besides, only original certified documents can be apostilled, not photocopies, so we obtain the correct copy and apostille it.

It is not advisable. Indeed, authorities require a certified translation with a signed statement of accuracy and translator competence. Accordingly, they reject translations made by the interested party or their relatives. Our certified translation meets that standard.

Furthermore, your data is used exclusively for your case before the issuing office. A real office in Brickell handles it, with publicly verifiable state credentials. In addition, you can check every license held by our founder in the official records before sending us a single detail.

This service covers divorces and annulments finalized in the United States. Namely, we obtain the document from the relevant state or court and prepare it for use here or abroad. Nevertheless, if your divorce took place in another country, write to us and we tell you transparently whether we can help.

Both. You can visit us by appointment in Brickell — 175 SW 7th St, Suite 1905, Miami. Alternatively, you can handle everything remotely by WhatsApp and video call, from any state or country. In both cases, the result is the same official certified document, delivered wherever you need it.
